One of the biggest advantages of the internet is that you are able to access as much information as you like with in a very short time. On the other hand, the internet has some disadvantages, one of which is that you are likely to forget most of the information you get on the internet. This may be because you don’t have to keep it in your mind, for the internet always enables you to access it whenever you need it. Thanks to this technological convenience, all you have to remember is where that information is at and how to access it. The same is true of a book, for you don’t need to remember the content of a book so long as you remember where that book is and you can look it up quickly. So, as is pointed out in the text above, if you want to bear the content of a book in your mind, you have to read it repeatedly for a certain period of time so that you can memorize it. Similarly, if you would like to learn something on the internet by heart, you need to access it until you completely memorize it. This is a disadvantage of the internet. (206 words)
/ The Internet has enabled us to access tremendous amounts of information, giving us a wide variety of reading opportunities from personal blogs to academic research around the world. We can browse them almost always for free. Additionally, we do not have to wait for books to be transported from faraway places. The Internet helps broaden our perspectives and saves us a lot of time.
However, there are some concerns about online reading. It might steer us away from reading carefully. When reading online, we are more likely to put less effort into remembering things because we know we can revisit the website on which we were reading whenever and wherever we want with just one click. Additionally, we tend to skim-read by quickly scrolling through websites. In such a reading style, it is likely that you may not gain comprehensive understanding or the whole picture. This might gradually rob out brain of the chance to think deeply, carefully, and critically. I think this is one of the reasons for the loss of the ability to reinforce memory.
Thus, the Internet has both advantages and disadvantages. I believe that it is important to decide how to engage with the Internet so that your ability to recall is not stolen by the Internet. (211 words)
